RCK Regular Weekly Meeting Monday, 25th January, 2016

The guest speaker for our Regular weekly meeting of Monday 25th January, 1 pm at the Pearl Continental Hotel was Mr. Abdul Rehman Allana, Chairman Alsons Group and Chairman AAS Trust.

Mr. Allana has played hands on role in setting up and managing AAS Trust since the year 2000, and has 16 years of experience in running drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers. With vast experience in dealing with addiction, he has also done his Diploma in Addiction Counseling from CPPD, Counseling School UK in 2001.

His topic was “Addiction in Street Children”.

RCK Regular Weekly Meeting on Monday, 18th January,16

The guest speaker for our Regular weekly meeting of Monday 18th January, 1 pm at the Pearl Continental Hotel was Chief Justice (R) Nasir Aslam Zahid.
He enrolled as an advocate of the Sindh High Court in 1957 and of the Supreme Court in 1962 and was elevated to the Bench of the Sindh High Court as an Additional Judge in 1980, and in 1983 was made a permanent judge.
The Honorable Justice (R) Nasir Aslam Zahid Barrister-at-Law, is one of the most respected names of Pakistani judiciary and trusted citizen of Pakistan. Son of the first Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Mr. Zahid Hussain.

Nasir Aslam Zahid has remained the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court and then a judge of the Federal Shariat Court of Pakistan and Supreme Court of Pakistan.

He gained more honor and respect when he resigned from the Supreme Court of Pakistan instead of taking oath of the office according to Gen. Pervez Musharraf’s Provisional Constitutional Order.

His topic was “Access to Justice for a Common Man”.


Rotary Club Karachi: Fellowship Brunch

Rotary Club of Karachi had a fellowship brunch organized by club fellowship committee at Marina club on Sunday 10th January. The club members, their spouses, guests and children joined in large numbers. Some others club’s Rotarians and diplomat also joined us.

The event was full on fun and enjoyment where DJ played on the boat. The brunch was served on top floor in the pleasant sunlight and breeze.


Memorial Meeting for Late Rtn. Mahmud Dossa and Shabbir Ahmed Ali

The meeting on Monday, January 4th at 1 pm at PC Hotel was a memorial meeting for our late Rotarian Mahmud Dossa and Shabbir Ahmed Ali Burhani.
The family members of the passed away Rotarians also joined us that day.

RCK Regular Weekly Meeting Monday, 21st December,2015

The guest speaker for our Regular weekly meeting of Monday 21st December, 1 pm at the Pearl Continental Hotel was Mr. Asad Umar.

Asad Umar (born 1961) is a Pakistani politician and former business administrator. He served as CEO and President of Engro Corporation for 8 years during a 27-year career with the company. He received Sitara-i-Imtiaz for his business achievements in 2010.

Umar’s 27-year career at Engro began in 1985, when the company was still a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, the global oil giant. He joined the company as a business analyst, and was working for it abroad in Canada when the famous management buyout of Engro took place in 1991. Umar came back to Pakistan and in 1997 was appointed the first CEO of Engro Polymer & Chemicals, the group’s petrochemical arm. Later on, he was elected as the President and CEO of Engro Corporation in January 2004 and transformed the business from a mere chemical company to a giant conglomerate. It was his idea to diversify into dairy and food business and today ‘Engro Foods’ stand as the highest profit producing subsidiary of Engro Corporation. It was in his tenure when Engro became the first Pakistani company to buy a business entity abroad when the company earlier in 2012 bought Canadian based food company ‘Al Safa Halal’.

Umar has been quoted about his first salary as saying, “I still remember the exact figure of my first salary: Rs 8,170 per month. My boss at the time said ‘Well, frankly they are paying you too much.” At the time he left the company, he was the CEO in the company who received Rs 7 million monthly as salary.

His topic was “Basic Contours of Economic Policies Should be above Politics”.
