RCK Regular Weekly Meeting on Monday, 14th December ,2015

The guest speaker for our Regular weekly meeting of Monday 14th December, 1 pm at the Pearl Continental Hotel was own Rotarian Asad Rafi.

Asad is a graduate of Grammar School. He started his career at the age of 21 at IBM Pakistan and worked there for over 15 years, before joining SI3 as a communication specialist. He is a motivational speaker and a freelance writer now. At the age of 20 he was diagnosed with Friedrich’s Ataxia. It is an inherited disease that causes progressive disease to the nervous system.

He has also appeared on various TV channels for interviews including DAWN, Aaj, Business Plus, Samaa TV, CNBC and Hum TV recently. He is also a member of the Toastmasters Club which improves your public speaking and communication skills.

He has recently written his book titled “Steel Wheels” which is his autobiography and his talk will be based on the book. Last month he had given a book talk at IBA.

His topic was “Steel Wheels”.

Dan Nainan at RCK Fellowship Dinner

On Tuesday Dec1, Rotary Club of Karachi hold an international fellowship event.

Dan Nainan a USA based standup comedian performed that night. Dan has performed in 27 countries including White House. His fan club includes Obama, Clinton and other world leaders.

Dan Nainan got his start by taking a comedy class to get over the nervousness of speaking on stage. In his job as a demo engineer with Intel Corporation, Dan toured the world with CEO Andy Grove, demonstrating the latest technology for audiences numbering into the thousands.

After leaving Intel to pursue comedy full time, Dan has toured as a feature act with Robert Schimmel and Russell Peters. Dan has appeared on network television including “Last Comic Standing” as well as in feature films, on radio and in an Apple “Get a Mac” commercial, and he performed for Donald Trump in Palm Beach, Florida.

He has performed at TED India, at a Toastmasters International convention, and he recently performed on the Muscular Dystrophy Association Labor Day Telethon live from Las Vegas.

The guest speaker for our Regular weekly meeting of Monday 7th December, 1 pm at the Pearl Continental Hotel was Mr. Syed Adil Gilani, Founder member of Transparency International Pakistan and Consultant to Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission since January 2015.

A Civil Engineer by Profession has experience of 42 years in Pakistan and Nigeria, in Public/Private Sector Government of Sindh, North Estate of Nigeria, Gammon Pakistan, and Karachi Port Trust of Pakistan. Member as Port Consultant of the Sub-Working Group on Ports & Shipping, Government of Pakistan.

His topic was be “Corruption in Pakistan, Role played to protect corrupt persons by Nab, FIA and Judiciary”.

RCK Regular Weekly Meeting on Monday, 23rd November,15

The guest speaker for our Regular weekly meeting of Monday 23rd November, 1 pm at the Pearl Continental Hotel was Lt. Gen. (R) Khalid Kidwai.

Lieutenant General (retired) Khalid Kidwai is advisor to Pakistan’s National Command Authority and pioneer Director General of Pakistan’s Strategic Plans Division, which he headed for an unprecedented 15 years. He is one of the most decorated generals in Pakistan and was awarded the highest civil award Nishan-i-Imtiaz, as well as Hilal-i-Imtiaz and Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Winner of the Sword of Honor at Pakistan’s Military Academy, he later saw front-line combat action in erstwhile East Pakistan and was a prisoner of war in Pakistan’s 1971 war with India. General Kidwai conceived, articulated and executed Pakistan’s nuclear policy and deterrence doctrines into a tangible and robust nuclear force structure. General Kidwai is also the architect of Pakistan’s civilian Nuclear Energy Program and National Space Program.

His topic was “Pakistan’s Nuclear Capability and Strategic Weapons”.

RCK Regular Weekly Meeting on Monday, 16th November, 2015

The guest speaker for our Regular weekly meeting of Monday 16th November, 1 pm at the Pearl Continental Hotel was Mr. Abdullah Hussain Haroon.

Hussain Haroon is a well known and accomplished person. He completed his education from Karachi Grammar School and the University of Karachi. His career spans over a wide spectrum of activities ranging from business to politics, to social welfare & philanthropy. His contributions to promoting sports and education at the National/Provincial level are also very creditable. He has held high positions in various organizations, both national and international, where his services had been recognized as outstanding.  During his entire tenure as Pakistan’s Ambassador/Permanent Representative at the United Nations from 2008 to 2012 he served the nation well in the arena of international diplomacy.

He has the honour of being invited by a very large number of prestigious national and international Institutions to address their forums as a Keynote Speaker, such as: 1) Army War College.  2) New York University. 3) Center on Global Counter-terrorism Cooperation, Washington, D.C.  4) International Workshop on Global Security, Istanbul. Turkey.   5)  Alumni Association of Fletcher School of Law & SAIS on “Pakistan at the Epicenter-The War on Terror.”  6)  Windham World Affairs Council, Brattleboro, Vermont. 7) Cornell University’s Cornell Institute for Public Affairs.  8) Centre on Global Counterterrorism Cooperation, Washington.  9)  Council of Foreign Relations, New York. 10) King Edward Medical College Alumni Association of John Hopkins University. 11)  Yale University, where he spoke on “Between Ballots and Bullets.”  12) American Bar Association’s Annual Meeting: Legal Empowerment of the Poor.  13) Harvard Law School, where he spoke on “Talking Peace: Prospect for a Negotiated Settlement in Afghanistan.”  14) At Columbia University, South Asia Institute’s Conference he spoke on “Democratic Contestations in Bangladesh & Pakistan: Beyond Security.”

His topic was “Conflict of Civilizations”.

RCK Regular Weekly Meeting on Monday, 9th November,2015

The guest speaker for our Regular weekly meeting of Monday 9th November, 1 pm at the Pearl Continental Hotel was DIG Federal Investigation Agency Shahid Hayat.

He started his services in KP as a magistrate in 1988, served as judicial officer for two years, after CSS joined the police services. Served in Punjab for a year before being sent to Sindh in1995, served in different capacities in Karachi during the operation in1995-96, was injured twice in encounters, awarded QPM for meritorious services, joined FIA and served as head of immigration at Jinnah airport and head of cyber crime, served in Sindh police in various capacities as head of district and head of different investigation units, worked as DIG South and East, establishment, special branch and later elevated to the post of additional IGP Karachi and presently as director FIA, Sindh.

His topic was “Policing Challenges in Karachi”.

RCK Regular Weekly Meeting on Monday, 2nd November,2015

The guest speaker for our Regular weekly meeting of Monday 2nd November, 1 pm at the Pearl continental Hotel was Mr. Javed Iqbal, Chairman Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue.
 
Mr. Iqbal is grade 22 officer in the Ministry of Law and Justice. He was appointed as the Chairman Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue in 2000.
His topic was “Income Tax Malpractices”.
 

 

 

 

 

The guest speaker for our regular weekly meeting on Monday 19th October, 1 pm at the PC Hotel was Professor Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman.

Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman obtained his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Cambridge University (1968). He has 1002 publications in several fields of organic chemistry including 723 research publications, 37 international patents, 68 chapters in books and, 173 books published largely by major U.S. and European presses. He is the Editor-in-Chief of eight European Chemistry journals. He is Editor of the world’s leading encyclopedic series of volumes on natural products “Studies in Natural Product Chemistry” 47 volumes of which have been published under his Editorship during the last two decades. Eighty two students have completed their Ph.D. degrees under his supervision.

Prof. Rahman is the first scientist from the Muslim world to have won the prestigious UNESCO Science Prize (1999) in the 35 year old history of the Prize. He was elected as Fellow of Royal Society (London) in July 2006.

Prof. Dr. Atta-ur-Rahman is the most decorated scientist of Pakistan having won four civil awards by the government of Pakistan, including Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (1983), Sitara-i-Imtiaz (1991), Hilal-i-Imtiaz (1998), and the highest national civil award Nishan-i-Imtiaz (2002).

His topic was “Science and Technology for Socio Economic Development”.
