Career Development

Students in secondary schools today have a range of subject choices leading to diverse career paths. The average 15-year old is daunted by the decisions he/she must make today, which will have significant impact on the professional field he/she will embark on tomorrow. To address this need, “Guiding Light for Your Future”, a Career Development seminar was organized on January 16, 2010 at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan, by Rotary Club of Karachi, in collaboration with Rotaract Club of Karachi. This provided a platform for career counseling to students from Class VIII upto A Levels to meet the objective of providing Karachi’s youth with information regarding the options they have, helping them to identify their strengths, and allowing them to make an informed decision about careers of their choice.

Career Counseling seminar presented illustrious industry leaders from the emerging fields of Entrepreneurship, Armed Forces, Human Resources, Brand Management / Marketing, Media Sciences & Communication, Insurance, Micro Finance, Acturist, Chartered Accountancy and Information Technology. The speakers introduced these professional disciplines to students, highlighting the relevant competencies a student must possess to succeed in their chosen career. The speakers included Mr. Javaid Jabbar, Ms. Shireen Naqvi, Rtn. Tahir Ahmed, PP Samee-ul-Hassan, Mr. Omer Niaz, Ms. Jehan Ara, Mr. Leon Menezes, Mr. Adil Moosajee, etc. An interactive breakout session followed the speakers’ presentations, in which students asked questions of their relevant interest from these reputable industry professionals in their respected fields. 297 students participated from 18 schools.
