Jugnoo Sabaq

RCK provided Rs 137,500 for its Literacy program, which was launched   in collaboration with Bright Education Society (BES), a local NGO, on May 4, 2010 at Qaisbah Colony in SITE.

Twenty-five centers located in the down trodden poor localities of SITE, Baldia Town and Orangi were selected.  Each center will provide education to 20 participants.  25 teachers/trainers received 500 sets of 4 books each (at a cost of Rs 224 per set – in total of Rs 112,000). These  books were provided by the Rotary District Literacy Chairman Mian Abdul Majeed, who also attended this opening along with Mr Ryad Afzal for Literate Pakistan (Inventors of Jugnoo Sabaq).  PP Najam A. Khan Chairman, Literacy Committee, Rotary Club of Karachi thanked Bright Education Society, Mian Abdul Majeed and  Ryad Afzal for their help in organizing this program.

In addition, RCK has provided Rs 200,000 to complete this ongoing programme, which also includes setting up a small Science Laboratory in one of the centres run by BES.

RCK Supported Rotaract Club of Nawabshah Knight Riders for Distribution of  School Bags to Needy Children.

In the past, Rotary Club of Karachi had supported Rotaract Club of Nawabshah Knight Riders in their project for distribution of school to needy children. A school bag contained exercise books, pencil, pen and the message ‘END POLIO NOW’ printed on the bag.

Cost of each bag was Rs 300.  President Talaat Tyabji requested RCK members to donate so that our Club could contribute towards this project.

In response to the appeal, the following Rotarians contributed  Rs 5,000 each:  PDG Aziz Memon, PP Asif Fany, Hon Treasurer Ajaz Saya, President Talaat Tyabji; PPs, Dr Hoshang Anklesaria, Sameeul Hasan and Wasim Mirza and Rtn Arjumand Qazi.

Lyari School Project Principal and Top Students Honoured

The Principal and the three top most students of Class X, who secured over 83% in the SSC exams were honoured at the RCK meeting on October 26, 2009. RCK invested in the Lyari School Project, which is being run jointly with the Pakistan Navy. On behalf of RCK, the Guest Speaker Justice (Rtd) Fakruddin G. Ebrahim presented a plaque and book to Ms Tahira Iqbal for being the best principal in Navy schools and plaques and gifts to the students.
